AnApex Legendsplayer has suggested that Respawn Entertainment remove the footsteps of teammates from the game entirely. According to a Redditor, that would be an easy fix to issues with confusing audio inApex Legends. In first-person shooters, especially ones where close combat is necessary, a good soundscape is crucially important to deliver enjoyable gameplay.

Many multiplayer shooters, and battle royale games, in particular, have struggled with audio issues, andApex Legendsis not an exception. The game has amazing sound effects, and more have been added as the game has included more advanced Legends and complex maps with interactive elements. However, this has affected the playability of the game, especially in close quarters. According to a Reddit user known as almay9,removing friendly footsteps fromApex Legendsmight be worth thinking about for Respawn.

WhileApex Legendshas suffered from specific audio-related bugsthroughout the years, the Reddit thread just talks about the confusing message footsteps audio sends in general. It doesn’t seem to have consistency in terms of distance, or sometimes even direction. Usually, when a player hears a footstep, they need to figure out whether that was a friend or a foe. Quickly glancing at the minimap is a good way to determine whether there’s a teammate looting in that direction or not. However, if the suggested distance or direction is off, players can easily get surprised, which in low TTK (time-to-kill) games usually doesn’t end well.

While footsteps are perhaps the most consequential audio issuesApex Legendshas dealt with, it’s certainly not only those that have annoyed players. When Respawn introduced a new Heat Shield item to the game, anaudio bug allowedApex Legendsplayers to spam a “whoosh” soundto other players. While this was fixed fairly quickly, these types of issues have continued to happen.

Even the popular YouTubestreamer Dr Disrespect criticizedApex Legendsfor its audio issues recently. However, Respawn shouldn’t consider this a lost battle by any means. The game is still enjoyed by many gamers, and some simple fixes, as the one Redditors suggested here, could make gameplay much more enjoyable and less frustrating.

Apex Legendsis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
