Anthem’sfirst birthday has come and gone. The game initially released on February 22nd, 2019, for PC and consoles, and while one would expect some sort of celebration from a game’s one year anniversary, it seems that there was nothing of the sort planned forAnthem.However,there is some festivity, asAnthemstill has its Christmas decorations up.
EA and Bioware made no mention of the game’s birthday- even on Twitter, where a one-year shout out might have done something to reassure the game’s remaining fans. Rather, those still invested in the game took to Reddit to thank Bioware for the experience, offering words of encouragement for the developer. AmajorAnthemoverhaul is in the works, so it’s possible that the devs are simply focused on that, and didn’t want to waste any resources.

It’s a little strange that EA and Bioware didn’t do anything forAnthem.There are plenty of thingsBioware needs to fix inAnthem,so if the company is avoiding wasting time on small festivities to focus on grand issues, great, but even something as small as a blog update or tweet likely would’ve done a lot for the game’s community. It would’ve drawn hate from some, to be sure, but it still seems better to commit to the game than just let it sink.
Hopefully, the future is bright forAnthem.Other games have had redemption stories before, justlook atNo Man’s Sky,so it isn’t entirely out of the question that the game will get better. The community would, undoubtedly, appreciate some more transparency and communication from the developer, but for now, they’ll just have to take what they can get.
In the meantime, there are plenty of other looter-shooters out there worth giving a try.The Division 2: Warlords of New Yorkis just a few days away, andDestiny 2has some big things in the works for its next few seasons. It’s the perfect time to give a few new games a shot while fans wait forAnthem’srework. Plus, the other games get a bit more festive with limited-time events, so there’s plenty to check out within them.
