Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis one of 2020’s biggest releases. Since its launch early this year,Animal Crossing: New Horizonshas sold over 22 million copies, with Nintendo stating that the game’s performance went beyond initial expectations. Of course, this doesn’t come as a surprise given thatAnimal Crossinghas always been a hit for the company, and the onslaught of the current pandemic allowed the game to unify friends and families in these trying times.
Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser recently revealed that the company is planning major content updates forAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsin 2021. While the 400 characters that are already in the game will surely keep players busy for a long time. Blanca
Headlining this list is the adorable but sometimes creepy cat villager called Blanca. Her name likely comes from the word “blank,” which references her blank face. It is also possible that her name comes from the feminine equivalent of the Spanish word Blanco, which means white, referring to her white skin. In previousAnimal Crossinggames, players will meet Blanca without a face, and she will ask them to draw her a new one. However, inAnimal Crossing: New Leaf,Blanca served as the host of the April Fool’s festivities, which is a role that she should reprise inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Although her absence in the latest game is still a mystery, some speculate that the mechanic where players draw Blanca a face may lead to some players drawing all sorts of inappropriate things.
Brewster
Ever since the release ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsearly this year, players have been requesting Brewster’s return. In previousAnimal Crossinggames, Brewster owns and works in his cafe called The Roost. Of course, with all the customization options currently available inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, it would be a great addition to task players with building Brewster’s cafe and building all sorts of furniture and items depending on the player’s style.
Porter
From the very firstAnimal Crossinggame, up untilNew Leaf, players were first greeted by Porter, who is a monkey running the Train Station in the village. Given thatNew Horizonsis set on a deserted island, it is understandable why Porter has been removed in the game’s roster of NPC’s. Still, it would be nice to see him visit the island, and maybe Nintendo could makePorter work in the island’s airport, alongside the staff of Dodo Airines.
Serena
Serena is a dog villager, who only appeared inAnimal Crossing: City Folkas the fountain goddess. Given that she only appeared in one game, Serena is not that popular compared to the other characters on this list. Still, it would be interesting to see her return, and maybe Nintendo could add a new feature where Serena would transport players to a special location where they could mine for rare materials. Additionally, Nintendo could also bring back the fountain fromCity Folk, where players could summon Serena for special tasks and quests.
Tortimer
Last on this list is Tortimer, who has appeared in every singleAnimal Crossinggame apart fromAnimal ForestandNew Horizons. In all his appearances Tortimer played as the village’s mayor, apart fromNew Leafwhere it was revealed that he has retired to his own island. Given his popularity, it would be nice to see Tortimer visit the island of players inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, where he could give players some tips and secrets on how to run a village and ensure thatevery residentis happy and looked after.
Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
