Animal Crossing: New HorizonsallowsAnimal Crossingfans to again customize a location to their liking. In the case ofNew Horizons, the game gives players the opportunity to create an island paradise of their dreams, with creative players being rewarded for their ability to think outside the box and make some unique islands. While players can create a sprawling metropolis or more normative tropical island, manyAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans take inspiration from their favorite movies, games and shows when creating their island.
From one player who continues to base theirisland onThe Witcher 3, fit with a woodland area, coastal bandit camp and Honeyfill Meadworks, to another player who created a version of the ruined Hyrule Castle fromBreath of the Wild, it’s clear thatAnimal Crossingplayers have no shortage of inspiration from other media. Rather than creating something a large building or terraforming an area to look like a game though, oneAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfan has decided to take things to a smaller scale, creating their tribute on the bulletin board found in the town square.

Often players use the bulletin board to write messages and draw. Similarly to a player’s island, oftenAnimal Crossingplayers will make tributes to games, villagers, and movies on their bulletin board. One player decided to dedicate their board to L from the hugely popular animeDeath Note. Though the anime finished airing in 2007, it received aNetflix adaptation in 2017, and remains popular and meaningful to fans.
The video, which was posted to Reddit by user u/oodlesof_doodles, is a time-lapse which shows the player at first attempting to draw different characters, before settling on the style which is recognizably similar toDeath Note, and drawing the character from the anime. There are multiple drafts of L, which as pointed out by one commenter all seemed to “look great.” However, as the artist detailed in the comments, they weren’t “feeling” the previous drawings before settling on the final piece, which was praised by many. Drawings seem to be a way in which manyAnimal Crossingfans create their tributes either in-game or in real life. One player decided against crossovers and instead drewevery villager inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons.
Despite its anime ending nearly fifteen years ago,Death Note’spopularity has been maintained throughout the years by new anime fans stumbling on the series. Recently,Death Notelanded popular Twitch streamerDisguised Toast a one month banas the streamer decided to stream the anime while broadcasting.
