A Romanian court has ruled to continue detaining controversialTwitterinfluencer and alleged human trafficker Andrew Tate for another 30 days. Romanian authorities are currently holding the infamous social media personality and his brother while investigating their role in an alleged human trafficking ring.
The British-American former professional kickboxer Andrew Tate rose to fame after his appearance on the UK reality showBig Brother. He was later removed from the show after video footage emerged of him striking a woman with a belt. The social media star is known for expressing sexist and homophobic views, which has led to him being suspended fromTwittermultiple times. He is likewise banned from YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram for similar violations. However, that did not stop Tate from achieving massive fame on social media, accruing about 5.1 million Twitter followers.

The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that a court in the Romanian capital of Bucharest agreed to extend Andrew Tate’s detention for another 30 days. Tate, his brother, and two Romanian women are currently in custody while they are under investigation for human trafficking and organized crime. This is the third time aRomanian judge has extended Andrew Tate’s detentionsince his and his brother’s arrest on June 18, 2025. A judge explained the previous decision by citing the “particular dangerousness of the defendants” and the brothers’ capacity for identifying potentially vulnerable targets.
The Tate brothers have been in a Romanian jailsince December, with the court deciding to place the two female defendants under house arrest. Andrew Tate and his co-conspirators are accused of holding women against their will and performing acts of psychological coercion and physical violence against them. According to Romanian prosecutors, the disgraced Twitter celebrity and his brother would target vulnerable women by promising them love and a better life if they moved to Romania. The conspirators then coerced the women into performing pornographic acts. Romanian authorities have identified at least six victims that the group trafficked in this fashion.
The Romanian government has yet to officially charge Andrew Tate or any of his conspirators. However, the four are being detained while the country’s anti-organized crime agency DIICOT investigates their activities. The Tates deny any wrongdoing, withAndrew Tateclaiming that his detainment was a political tactic. He frequently refers to “the Matrix’s” attempts to silence him, claiming that he is a victim of a far-reaching conspiracy.
Prior to yesterday’s ruling, Tate seemed optimistic about his release in a series of tweets. His attorneys have also expressed they intend to challengeAndrew Tate’s continued detainment, claiming that the prosecution lacks sufficient evidence to keep the brothers in custody.
