AEW teamed up with publisher THQ Nordicand formerWWE 2Kseries developer Yuke’s to develop and releaseAEW Fight Forever, the first AEW video game. The game was originally conceptualized to be a spiritual successor to classic Nintendo 64 wrestling games such asWCW/nWo RevengeandWWF No Mercyaccording to AEW executive vice president Kenny Omega. After nearly three years in development, Omega recently revealed the June 29 release date forAEW Fight Foreverto excite wrestling fans this summer.AEW Fight Foreverwill include an in-depth career mode alongside mini-games, offline exhibition matches, online modes, and much more. Fans can also expect pro wrestlers to be busted open after taking devastating chair shots and other weapon attacks within the game.

The official AEW Games Twitter account shared two new screenshots ofAEW Fight Foreverfeaturing the AEW Dynamite ring and various wrestlers covered in blood. AEW Games notes that some fans were worried about a potential removal of blood, and the company said that the new screenshots would speak for themselves. The first screenshot depicts a bout between Chris Jericho and AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy, while the second screenshot features former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida wielding a kendo stick against Abadon. Both screenshots demonstrate the use of blood on wrestler models and parts of the wrestling ring.
Blood appears to be more prominent in hardcore match types such asUnsanctioned Lights Out Matchand Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match. Wrestlers may bleed if players target their opponent’s head with a weapon as shown in the screenshot depicting Hikaru Shida and Abadon. However, wrestlers may also bleed if players consistently land strong strikes on their opponents.
AEW Fight Forever’sratingmay have been a source of worry and doubt about the game’s use of blood within the community. Fortunately, the latest tweet by AEW Games quickly garnered a positive response from longtime wrestling fans. Some fans also jokingly commented on Jon Moxley and the amount of times he bled on AEW programming while getting excited about the release ofAEW Fight Forever.
Although AEW disappointed some fans withan update aboutAEW Fight Forever’srelease date, the company is building more good will in its community by sharing positive updates about in-game content. AEW may want to continue releasing more gameplay and updates to continue raising the game’s momentum heading into June.
