In the gaming world, it seems that the biggest signal of a successful fantasy, sci-fi, or superhero franchise is having the story retold in aLEGOgame. TT Games has recreated some of the biggest IPs in LEGO form, includingStar Wars,Harry Potter,Indiana Jones,The Hobbit,The Avengers, andBatman, among many others. With the rumors ofTT Games creating a newLEGOgame based on a major IP, many fans have speculated that this could beGame of Thrones.
IfGame of Thronesfinally receives theLEGOtreatment, it would be well deserved. With 164 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and 59 total wins, it’s one of the most decorated TV shows of all time and would fit in well beside TT Games’ other collections of IPs. However, George R. R. Martin could be hesitant to once again license out the world he created after the hit HBO series got the chance to complete his story before he could. If Martin does give his blessing,LEGOandGame of Thronescould be a match made in heaven.

The Timing Makes Perfect Sense for Both Sides
After thesuccess ofLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, TT Games is ready to undertake a new, massive IP and there are none remaining that could utilize theLEGOspecial formula quite likeGame of Thrones. WithHouse of the Dragonon hiatus as it begins production on the second season andWinds of Winterforever on hold as Martin struggles to complete his book series, there is a major void for fans of theThronesIP over the next couple of years.
Additionally,LEGOcould help bring one of the best narratives of the last several decades to a new, younger audience.Thronesis notorious for its adult themes, nudity, and violence, but this new adaptation could still wink and nod to those while having a family-friendly viewing experience. Some fans may push back at that concept since it goes against the world that Martin intentionally created, but it could also provide a good amount of humor to fans of the books and TV series, hinting at things that could obviously not be included in an E-rated game to provide a few laughs.
LEGO Could Help Rehabilitate Game of Thrones’ Ending
Despite the critical success of the first six seasons ofGame of Thrones, the final two seasons were controversial, to say the least. While the specific events that occurred weren’t necessarily bad, how the story got there left a bad taste in the mouths of both fans and critics. Where the first seasons took their time with character development and intricate plot points, the last two rushed them to get to the end of the story.
One great example of this is whenDaenerys Targaryen burned down Kings Landingin the penultimate episode ofGoT. Throughout the show, many warned Dany about the perils of her father, the Mad King. She always swore she would not become him; Daenerys was there to be the champion of the slaves and common people, not to rule the way others had. Then, with seemingly little warning, she killed countless innocent thousands despite the Lannister armies already surrendering. Her ending up just as crazy as her father isn’t an outlandish endpoint, but the stark change in her temperament was shocking for many fans.
While aLEGOgame can’t alter established franchise canon, it could bring some levity to a situation that still has viewers feeling hurt years later. TheLEGOgames’ brand of humor and physical, brick-based gags could help fans of the franchise take a step back and laugh at the sheer absurdity of some of the events over the last two seasons, while simultaneously allowing the franchise to acknowledge that they messed up the ending. Regardless of whether or not aLEGO Game of Thronestitle ever makes its way to consoles, both franchises would do well to explore working with each other.
