Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis undoubtedly one of the most popular video games ever made. It has aged considerably well since its release in 2011 and has managed to stay relevant since then thanks to its charm. It has been remastered multiple times, allowing fans on all platforms the opportunity to experience it with improved graphics and bonus content.

skyrim wooden sword

Skyrimoffers the player the option to shape their own character’s fighting style throughits abundance of weaponry. The player can stumble upon an array of weapons by advancing the game’s plot and through exploration. There are countless weapons to choose from, though some are far less practical than others.

10Wooden Sword

In a world where enemies hide behind every corner, it is vital to have a weapon ready in one’s hand. Given that weapons are easily obtainable it can be assumed that everyone encountered on the player’s journey will possess a means of defending themselves, but this is not always the case.

The Wooden Sword, a weapon most merchants carry on their travels, is arguably the biggest waste of pocket space seen throughout the game. With iron swords so readily available, the idea of opting for the Wooden Sword is questionable. Though it may serve to benefit the player against weaker enemies, it is far from reliable in combat.

9Knife

The player has the option to utilize a kitchen utensil as their primary weapon, but it should be their first choice. This surprisingly rare itemcan only be found in five locations throughout the expansive world ofSkyrim, rendering it unlikely to become a part of the player’s arsenal.

Though it can be a useful means of defense against less threatening enemies, it is unlikely to be utilized in combat due to its rarity. By the time this weapon can be found the player will have obtainedfar superior weapons, making the Knife an unnecessary addition.

8Fork

The Fork is one of the weakest weapons available in Skyrim, offering a mere one point of damage. Unlike the common dinner forks found in taverns, this fork has two prongs and can be used as a weapon.

Why anyone would opt to acquire and use this weapon in a combat situation is uncertain as it holds no benefits whatsoever.Though it can be enchanted, it would be a better choice to enchant any other weapon in the player’s possession as improving the power of this laughable kitchen utensil is simply a waste of materials.

7Shiv

The Shiv is usually discovered by the player during their first trip to the Cidhna Mine, a prison located in Markarth. The Silver-Bloods control this prison and force those unfortunate enough to be imprisoned there to mine for Silver Ore.

The only weapon available to the player in this mine is the Shiv, the fourth-weakest weapon in the game. It can be effective for stealth attacks, but upon escaping Cidhna Mine, should be discarded immediately due to its poor performance in combat.

6Phantom Sword

The Phantom Sword is an invisible weapon that can only be acquired on the PC edition through the use of console commands. Though it cannot be seen in the inventory, it can be equipped to the player’s character by using a separate command.

It is a one-handed sword used by the spectral Greybeard on High Hrothgar. Many have speculated that it only exists, so the Greybeards do not raise their hands during combat. Even though the Dragonborn can equip this weapon, witnessing them flinging their empty hands at their foes is baffling.

5Wabbajack

The Wabbajack is a staff received upon completion of the Mind of Madness quest given to the player by Dervenin in Solitude. It is a Daedric artifact thatcasts random spells.

Wabbajack

Though it can completely demolish the Dragonborn’s enemies, it can also benefit them. It can heal enemies and reanimate the Dragonborn’s targets, rendering encounters far more challenging than they should be. Though it is powerful its inconsistent nature renders it a poor choice for difficult battles.

4Woodcutter’s Axe

The sole purpose of the Woodcutter’s Axe is to chop firewood. While in possession of it, the player can use wood chopping blocks to make the planks of wood required forupgrading one’s home.

Choosing the Woodcutter’s Axe over the vast array of weaponry available inSkyrimis a poor idea due to its performance. By the time the player locates it, they should have a substantially superior arsenal at their disposal, making the usage of the Woodcutter’s Axe in anything but woodcutting a nonsensical notion.

3Practice Arrow

The only location that Practice Arrows can be obtained is at Angi’s Camp by talking to Angi herself. She will offer the Dragonborn ten arrows at a time but requests that they are the only arrows used by them during combat.

Practice arrows dozero points of damage per hit, rendering them ineffective during combat unless, of course, the player intends on keeping their foes alive. Aside from this, these arrows serve no purpose in combat. Perhaps they would be best utilized in a pacifist run where the player attempts to complete the game without killing a single enemy.

2Bloodscythe And Soulrender

Though Bloodsycthe is a relatively strong blade, it is lacking when used on its own. It is an effective damage dealing scimitar with thirteen base damage at its disposal, however, its true potential is only unlocked whiledual-wielding it with Soulrender.

While used in tandem, Bloodsycthe can absorb15 healthwhile Soulrender absorbs15 magicka. They can be extremely effective means of combat, but having to search for and come into the possession of both blades to achieve their full power is asking a great deal of the player.

1Valdyr’s Lucky Dagger

The name of this dagger implies that it is a necessity to be owned by the Dragonborn, but this is far from the case. Valdr’s Lucky Dagger offers a 25% chance of scoring a critical hit on one’s enemies and, though this seems like a huge benefit to the player, it is only partially true.

The critical damage this blade offers is fixed and cannot be improved, meaning that if this blade is discovered early in the game, its potential will lack as the story progresses. As the Dragonborn grows more powerful, the blade’s lack of power becomes more evident, rendering this so-called “Lucky Dagger” an unreliable means of combat.
